Northwest Package Delivery Co. first started as a taxi cab company in 1963. Founders Charles Ugaste and James G. Bennett had a vision to service the then rapidly growing O’Hare Airport territory. With five vehicles, a telephone and a rented motel room used as dispatch office, the company was started in Schiller Park, outside of the O’Hare Airport.
The business rapidly grew and within eight months a new building was purchased and state of the art radio dispatching equipment was installed (most companies in 1964 did not use this technology). Early in the 1980’s a larger facility, with an auto repair center and fuel tanks, was purchased. The business continued to grow as the package delivery service flourished and became the main focus of the company.
Keeping up with technology, in the 1990’s Northwest Package Delivery Co. was one of the first companies in the Midwest to install computers in vehicles for quicker order dispatching and tracking. Now, even web-based online customer order entries and package tracking is available, along with the traditional “live” 24-hour customer service representative. |
